AUCTORE G. H.
Thessalonica, urbs Macedoniæ celeberrima, peregrinatione & duplici Epistola S. Pauli notißima, dein Archiepiscopalis, etiamnum ampla, populosa & dives, cum portu commodissimo in intimo recessu sinus Thermaici, Venetis ab Amurathe secundo Turcarum Imperatore erepta fuit circa annum MCCCCXXXII. Huic urbi adscribitur cohors Martyrum, promiscui sexus plus quam trecentorum: [Martyres adscripti Thessalonicæ:] quorum nomina centum triginta octo celebrantur in antiquo Martyrologio S, Hieronymi, ex tribus potißimum apographis, scilicet Epternacensi, Corbeiensi, & Lucensi; in quarto apographo Blumiano plurimorum nomina Sanctorum desunt, ab amanuensi prætermissa. Dividemus hos Martyres quasi sub suis Decanis in Decades, ut si quid annotandum observemus, facilius poßit a lectore percipi.
[2] Sic ergo autographa quatuor incipiunt: Thessalonica Luciæ Virginis, & Auciæ Regis, Rogati, Germani, Silvani, Bullodi, Ceciliæ, Tertuli, Lautæ, Victoriæ. In ductrice totius cohortis consentiunt omnia apographa dicti Martyrologii. In Ms. Augustano S. Udalrici & Parisiensi Labbei ista leguntur: Thessalonicæ Octavi, Luciæ. De S. Octavio supra egimus. Mss. Trevirense, S. Maximini Casinense, & Altempsianum; Thessalonicæ S. Luciæ Virginis. Ms. Reginæ Sueciæ ab Holstenio excusum. In Thessalonica, Luceiæ Virginis & Euceriæ Regis, & aliorum multorum. [Lucia Virgo & Aucia Rex.] Notkerus eosdem Romæ adscripsit, ab eoque dicitur Nativitas Lyciæ Virginis & Auceiæ Regis Barbarorum, Rogati, Germani, Silvani, cum aliis plusquam trecentis. Ms. Vaticanum S. Petri, ad Supplementum genuini Martyrologii Bedæ, ante tomum 2 Martii a nobis editi, ita habet; Thessalonica Luciæ Virginis, & Aucegæ Reginæ Barbarorum. In apographis Epternacensi & Blumiano legitur, Auciæ Regis; in Corbeiensi, Auceiæ Regis barbari; in Lucensi, Acacii Regis Barbarorum. Iterum die XVIII Decembris, in eodem Lucensi legitur, Romæ Lucæ Virginis & Auceie Regis; & in dicto Corbeiensi Rome Luciæ Martyris & Auceiæ Regis. Interim dicto XXV Iunii eadem apud Rabanum, Notkerum, & auctorem Martyrologii sub nomine Bedæ excusi habentur, & Romæ tribuuntur; ubi apud Adonem & in Martyrologio Romano solum Lucia Virgo. Nos aliqua Acta habemus S. Luciæ Virginis, abductæ a Rege; quæ cum eo reversa, martyrio coronata esset Romæ; sed num forsan Thessalonicæ, & inde Romam translata, non liquet. [an Romæ potius coronati?] Id sane nobis maxime probaretur. Sed ad Socios progrediamur.
I, II, III, IV, V,
Gagus, Fortunatus, Maxima, Rogata, Paulina, Appia, Castula, Coteusa, Novella, Agapa. At alibi leguntur nomina Gai sive Egati, Fortunatæ, Maximi, & Agapiæ, loco Appie: Castula vero deest in Epternacensi, est tamen in aliis tribus: & loco Coteusae est etiam nomen Coteusi. Tertiam Decadem constituunt SS. Carra, Ururia, Bublasa, Fortunatus, Martinus, Saturninus, Bajanus, Rogatianus, Honoratus, Donatus. Pro varia lectione serviant scripta nomina Cassæ, Bublassæ, Marciani, Rogatianæ. Rogatiani autem memoria celebratur etiam in Mss. Pragensi, Leodiensi S. Laurentii, Trevirensi S. Maximini, & in Ms. Florario, ubi additur supra relatæ Luciæ, titulus Virginis, ipsaque adscribitur Thessalonicæ. In Ms. Richenoviensi, fit mentio Honorati & Donati. At nomen S. Fortunati est in quodam Kalendario ante opera S. Isidori, asservato in bibliotheca Vallicellana. In quartæ decadis serie collocantur SS. Marcianus, Saturninus, Potinus, Paulus, Petrunius, Rutilia, Flavius, Quietia, Januaria, Novella. Et variata lectione invenitur Probus pro Paulo: dein Perunius, Notilia, Quinta, Januarius, Novellius. Quintæ decadis ordinem tenent S S. Januarius, Gosia, Fædosa, Victorina, Matrona, Castula, Rogatiana, Quintus, Marcus, Gemina: variante autem scriptione leguntur nomina Januariæ, Gogosiæ & Sotiæ, Falosæ, Victorinæ, Castuli & Gastulæ, item Gemmæ pro Geminæ. Post Matronam vero desiderantur viginti duo Martyres, in Ms. Blumiano.
VI, VII,
[4] Sexta decade nominantur SS. Martialis, Mitumus, item Paulus, Vericius, Cassus, item Saturninus, Felix, item Martinus, Donatus, item Rogatus. Alia vero scriptione leguntur Martianus & Rogata: & nomen Felicis desideratur in Ms. Epternacensi. Septimæ decadis manipulus, SS. Joannes, Fortunatus, Donatianus; item Marcianus, Sailis, Castus; item Januarius; item Donatus, Hortensus; item Saturnina. Nomen Joannis deest in ecgrapho Lucensi: & variante lectione procedunt vocabula Fortunatæ, Sanlis, Ortiensis & Horninsi. Castus adjungitur S. Luciæ in Mss. Aquisgranen. Augustano, & Parisiensi Labbei; item apud Grevenum in Auctario Usuardi. Sequebatur vero hic repetitum Martini nomen, sed in solo Corbeiensi apographo, quem omittimus.
VIII, IX, X, XI, XII,
[5] Octavæ decadis ordo hic est, SS. Malchus, Silvanus; item Quintus, Felicia, Sillesia; item Januaria, Fortunata, Victuria, Maria, Prima. Gemellina, Faustina; item Novella, Donata, Getulla, Baricus, Urbana, Romana, Prima; item Tertula. Addebatur, præter Gemellinam, adhuc Gemella in solo Lucensi; quam omisimus: atque post Gemellinam iterum deerant quindecim nomina in apographo Blumiano: & in ceteris variant lectiones, Getuli & Zetulæ; Primiæ, & Tertullæ; loco Getullæ, Primæ & Tertulæ. Pro Faustina quoque videtur Faustinus cum sociis legi in Ms. Ultrajectino & Trevirensi; illo S. Mariæ, hoc S. Martini. Decimam decadem tibi faciant, SS. Casta & Maxima; item Urbana, Optata, Matrona, Melosa, Metunius, Majorus, Secunda, Urbana. Interim varie exprimuntur nomina, Orbani, Mittuni, Melosi, Secundicæ seu Secundi; loco Urbanæ, Metuni, Majori, & Secundæ. Nomen quoque Urbanæ bis erat in solo Lucensi. Undecimæ decadis claßi attribuendi, SS. Gemellina, Saturnina, Procula, Surdida, Silvana, Rufina, [cum aliis anonymus:] Nina, Sepacus, Vincentius, Priscus. Alia est scriptura Juli, Gordidæ, Nivæ; loco Proculæ, Surdidæ, Ninæ. Nomen Prisci est in Kalendario Ms. ante Psalterium S. Isidori. Duodecima turma sit sequentium, SS. Hilari, Felicis, Castulæ, Publii, Arabi, cum aliis centum viginti, Lupi, cum aliis XIII. Ex his in Ms. Augustano S. Udalrici refertur mentio SS.
